Nike Lunar Glide+ 2: Design and Color Review

My fave running shoes recently came out with a slightly different model.  It still has the same technology the lunar glides has become known for with a slight variation on the look.

Love the pink hue of this shoe.  It’s so bright and alive and that combined with very light gray is just perfect. I wish though that the Swoosh logo isn’t just painted.  The white-painted swoosh looks a little cheap up-close. This would have been perfect had the old swoosh material been used instead.

This one looks nice and cool.  The blue hue is brighter than the blue and white of the old version.  Though the Swoosh logo is also painted, it doesn’t diminish the design and does not look cheap at all.  I suppose being black, one wouldn’t  notice that it’s just painted compared to the white paint which looked chalky.

Let me give you a picture comparison of the old and new versions to give you a clearer idea.

Version 1                                                           Version 2

Differences:

1. Swoosh logo

>> cut and pasted on the shoe           >>painted only

2. Swoosh background

>>   plain solid color                               >> transparent plastic-like material

3. opposite side design

>>   different from the outer side       >> same on both sides

4. Adjustable Side Fit

>>   present                                                 >> none

So, what do I think?   The differences are minor and does not really affect the overall look of this shoes i so love  BUT  I do think the painted Swoosh logo is a diminution of design quality.    I guess the painted effect on the transparent plastic material could somehow down-grade the look of the shoes depending on the color of the paint used.

Is it still worth buying?  Of course!  With the lunar glides’ comfort,  snug fit and support plus  great looks, it still is my running shoe of choice.

Nike Lunar Glide+ Colors : A Review

Pink SoleColor review?  Some guys out there might say, “what the heck…!”  But before you continue, let me just say that though this may be a trivial topic for men, this is definitely a major one for women.  Right, ladies?

So men… I invite you for a sneak peak of how a woman thinks when buying shoes … particularly here, running shoes. Consider this girls talk and you’re invited to eavesdrop… 😉  If you’re anything like my hubby, you’d probably be shaking your head. hahaha!   So, okay?  Read on or click off…  here it goes…

The Color Review

I have been thinking about getting my 4th pair of running shoes for sometime now.  There are only 2 pairs I constantly use – Nike Pegasus and the Nike Lunar Glide+.  The first one I bought (a nice Adidas) was used only once as I unknowingly got just the exact size and it has given me a dead toe nail (well, almost!) on my first run using it..  I’ve appointed it as walking shoes since then.

I loved using my Nike Pegasus until I met and fell in love with the Lunar Glides+.  As said in my previous post on the Lunar Glide+ review, I was already thinking about getting another Pegasus in a different color (i know there’s a breed out there like me who buys things they really like in 2 or more colors) when the Lunar Glides+ stopped me dead on my tracks.  I just fell head over heels in love with it.  Yes, it’s on top of my running shoe list as of now so the question isn’t about getting another Lunar or not but … what other colors do they have? What color should I get?  Do they have enough color collection to satisfy my craving?

Nike has come out with 3 colors of the Lunar Glide+ so far.

Lunar Glide+ whit&orange A real winner.  The color is very subtle with its   basically white color trimmed with neon orange.  This is a safer color I should say which a wider range of women will like.  That includes me! So love mine! If you’re a newbie intent on seriously picking up running for a sport, this will be a very good pick.  It’s almost neutral color can be worn with almost any running outfit.

Lunar Glide+ blueWhoa, this one is striking!  The blue tone is so alive and upbeat.  Complementing it with a “highlighter” yellow provided the much needed break in the overall blue color. This may not be a first shoe pick color for a newbie though but that’s only because there is nothing neutral about the hue and therefore is highly picky on the outfit it will go with.  For runners picking their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, nth  running shoes, this color would surely brighten your collection and just might brighten  your running mood as well.  I just love the vibrant color!

Lunar Glide+ violet This one has two good color elements.  I probably wouldn’t put them together though.  The Barney-like combination just doesn’t appeal to me when worn either as a shoe or any apparel for that matter.  A white combination would have turned the tables for me here.  Not one I will spend on but one I can still wear if by some chance Jun buys it for me as a surprise.   It might just grow on me.  hahaha!!!

So, the verdict?  Got myself the blue Lunar Glide+!!!  Love wearing them!!!

Thought it would be perfect for the Kenny Urbanite Run on Aug 15 with its neon yellow trims.  Wearing this, I just might not need the glow-in-the-dark stuff that will be provided at the races.  😉

Ooooooh….  a NEW COLOR IS OUT!  I just saw the latest lunar glide+ color in Nike BHS last Sunday . . .

Lunar Glide+ 001 Another great neutral color in dominantly white complemented by  dark aqua green combination!   Definitely could be a 1st running shoe pick for those thinking about buying their first pair. This is really nice!  Oh by the way, they also have a men’s version for this in white and dark blue complementing color.  Hon, another Sole Mates pair? 😉

Blue SoleFour months running, four running shoes?!?

Pink SoleTouche! 😉

What can I say?  as an old song goes…

She’s Back!

I am increasing my runs lately hoping to gain more mileage each week.  With Mariel barred from strenuous activities for the past 4 weeks especially running, I had to contend with many a puppy face and sometimes bulldog ones 😉 as I go home from my runs.  bwahaha!  As I got home this morning though, I was greeted with a sweet smile and a hug by my solemate all dressed-up in black wearing her fave white & orange running shoes.

She’s back!!!

Hahaha Yes, I got the go-ahead!  My doctor said I can resume ALL activities and that includes RUNNING!  WOOOOOOHOO!!!

Nothing wrong with the liver but bad cholesterol is higher  than normal.  She explained that that was the underlying reason why my liver reading took a long time normalizing.  So, as per the doc, no meds yet, just a lifestyle change — “Reduce meat on your diet and yes, run.  That will help.”  WOOHOO!  I would love to!!!

At my solemates admonition,  the treadmill was  to be my comeback friend.  No problem with that.  Just as well, I thought, so there were sure to be people and first aid kits should I need it.  he he

So, off I went to the gym this morning.  I resolved to go slowly but surely.  I decided early on that I will not force myself.   I set the treadmill setting to just 30 minutes and walked the first 10, consistent with my goal of just running probably a little over a 3k this morning.  I steadily increased the pace every 1km and finished 3.45km when the treadmill stopped.  That was it?  I just started breaking a sweat.  So….

I hurriedly set it again for 30 minutes not wanting to break the momentum.  I kept closely tuned-in to my body the whole time I didn’t feel out-of-breath nor did I feel anything uncomfortable in my legs.  My right hamstrings were surprisingly not tight and my plantars were… where were they?  Couldn’t feel them!  (must be the shoes, really!  sorry, but I’m really raving about the new Lunar Glide+)   I was having a good time!  I was back running my usual pace of 7:30 at the start of the 2nd 30minute round and even managed a 6:40 – 6:30 pace at the last 3 minutes.   I’m back, yes, I’m back!

Finished this 2nd 30-minute round with a distance of 4.08k or a total of 7.5k this morning.  More than what I hoped for.  Great!

You know what else is great about this run?  I’m running now at the lightest weight I had since giving birth to my 1st child 14 years ago.

Oh, what a day!  What a beautiful day! 🙂

Nike Lunar Glide+ for Men and Women review

Last year, I had an opportunity to test run the first Nike Lunar with some other runners.  Though it is a nice model, it didn’t serve my flat-foot well.  Last May 30, I was again invited to be part of a group of runners to test run the latest Nike Lunar Glide+.  One thing nicer about it is that Mariel gets to test the women’s model, too.  We’re excited at the prospect.  Should we both like it, we’ll have our official  Sole Mates shoes!

The event was originally scheduled that Saturday morning but the weather did not cooperate.  So, instead of a group test run, we were given our Nike Lunar Glides, to take home and test on our own.   I guess this is a better arrangement as we can get to test the shoes on longer runs and give  better reviews.

Review:  Lunar Glide+ for Men

For almost 14 months, I’ve been using my Supernova control shoes to help my flat feet.  After all the PT sessions, my PT advised that I can already shift  to neutrals.  It has been a month now that I have been using my neutral shoes, the Nike Zoom Start+,  that’s been helping  me a lot with my recovery.

The Nike Lunar Glide+ serves me just as well.  It has  a  great fit and feel on my feet.  I enjoy using it.  It’s light, weighing  only 10.6 oz.  The ride goes well which specifically follow even when my gait changes when already tired.  What i like about this shoes is it has also full-length cushioning and at the same time also has a  stable platform with a rear-foot wedge support.

Ran 10k on concrete road and felt  real comfortable riding on it and didn’t feel any pain at all.  The rear foot wedge really worked for me. The cushion is just perfect.   This new Nike Lunar Glide+  is a combination of a more improved 1st Nike lunar and modified Nike Zoom Start+ that serves my flat feet well.  I still need to test this in one of my long runs.  For now, I can say this will move up over my Nike Zoom Start+ and will give a rating of 4.5 blue soles ( 5 being the highest) for now.

Review:  Lunar Glide+ for Women

I started my running  life with my Adidas, bought with the thought that I can have something to use IF I decide to join Jun running one day.  One big pull was that it was on sale and I really liked the orange stripes and sole on what was generally white shoes.  I thought it was clean and cool.  I got  just my exact size and yes, you guessed it right, my left big toe nail almost died.  I was traumatized!  That’s exactly what I didn’t want to happen as I am so meticulous about my toe nails.  That’s the first and last time I used that pair.

As I didn’t want a repeat of that episode on my relatively virgin toe nails,  Jun got me a Nike Pegasus this time a much bigger  size!  It’s a little too big but it works for me.  I love it and it’s what I always use in races up to now.  In fact, I love it so much I’m considering buying another one of a different color until …

the Nike ladies!

All the Nike ladies, all the Nike ladies ... woh oh oh (bards, doray, me & vima)

doray, me and vima again

I got and tested my new NIKE LUNAR GLIDE+!!!  This babe is sooooo pretty that kikays like me will surely love it!  Don’t be deceived by its stylishly good looks though, it performs well under pressure, too.  I tried running on it for 14k (mind you, my longest run is 10k)  and it passed the test with flying colors!  I love the overall feel of it.  My feet felt like they’re  being cuddled gently by the soft material but at the same time felt firmly supported at the ankles.  I was particularly concerned about that as I am prone to ankle sprains.  Another thing that concerns me most is cushioning on the sole as mine feels very uncomfortable after a long run (I am still in a state of denial here so I’m just calling it a sole discomfort for the moment and not that technical name that sounds like an injury — plantar something — hehe)

Anyway,  this shoe provided excellent support for this pink sole.  It felt like I was running on … where else  but the moon!

Nike Lunar Glide,  the name sooooo fits!   I give this 5 pink sole stamps for excellence!  Love it, love it, love it!!!
