Special Assignment

Two Saturdays ago, we were part of something that’s special to the Sole Mates — the soft launch of our church’s running ministry, RUN924. A talk on the basics of running  by Coach Rio dela Cruz  aptly titled ” Running 101 with Coach Rio” was presented with special participation of Beth Siojo who also introduced trail running basics.

It was a busy month prior to the event. As soon as Coach Rio pegged a date, we started work —  reserving a venue, gathering the core group,  planning details of the event, promoting it and doing all the nitty-gritty details one needs to do for an event like this.

We had an overwhelming number  of registrants on just the first week of promoting it such that we felt our current venue will not be able to hold the over 300 registered.  We just shot a video ad (a cool one if i may say with all actors wearing a Coach Rio do) which we did not show anymore for fear of registrants further ballooning to a number our venue cannot accommodate.  We treated it as a happy problem.  We prayed about the venue and continued working on getting CCF’s main theater to accommodate everybody.  Meantime, we stopped all promotions but on-line registration kept adding-up. Finally, we were able to secure the bigger venue just a few days before the event. Phew, just in time!

Then typhoon Basyang arrived and made its presence really felt.  Work got stunted due to brown-outs.  The team couldn’t email presentation files we had to consolidate.  We prayed… we worked … and we prayed.  We thank God everything turned-out A-okay!

We were blessed with a good turn-out, good venue, good weather and most of all a good number of additional volunteers. Yey!!!

Special thanks to Coach Rio and ultramarathoner, Beth Siojo who graciously shared their time, experience and expertise! God bless you both!

Our take on this assignment:  God only requires a willing heart.  He will provide the ability, resources and the time so we can do the work He has planned for us to accomplish.

Praying that we be faithful stewards of this work He has entrusted us… What a great privilege to serve…
